Dear RLRS Parents and Guardians,
What a beautiful summer we have been having! I hope you have been enjoying time with your children and that they are ready to return to school soon with lots of enthusiasm for learning!
The first day of school for students is August 31. A school calendar is included in this mailing for your convenience.
As in the past couple of years, the Parent/Student Handbook will be available to you on the RLRS website at http://www.rlrs.info. (You’ll find school supply lists there, too!) Hard copies will be available in the office. The 2011-2012 Handbook will appear on the website as soon as final revisions are complete and the School Board has approved it at their August 23 meeting. All students will receive a copy of the Code of Conduct at the beginning of the school year, and these, too, will be available in the office.
Last year’s traffic pattern has worked quite well, and at this time we do not anticipate any changes. Please take a minute to review the following:
In the A.M., all buses will drop students off in the bus loop. Elementary students will enter the school through the entrance by the gym at 7:30 if they choose to go to breakfast. Middle school and High School students may enter at 7:30 and proceed to homerooms or in the case of middle school, to breakfast first. Elementary students who choose not to go to breakfast at 7:30 a.m. should report directly to the playground with Mr. Philbrick until he opens the doors to go to classrooms. No middle or high school students will be allowed to proceed to homeroom until 7:30 unless they have a particular teacher’s permission. Middle or high school students may wait quietly in the front hall until 7:30 if they arrive before then.
As was the case last year, cars should NOT enter the bus loop in the morning. Drivers entering the main parking lot may drop off students in the drop off lane. If you choose to enter the building with your child, please park in the parking lot and enter through the school's main door. This procedure addresses the safety concern associated with adults entering the school through the side entrances. A crosswalk that will cross from the school entrance to the far side of the parking lot will provide space for people to walk as they enter the school.
The procedure for picking up students at the end of the day will remain the same as last year. Buses will load students in the bus loop. Cars may park on the right of the loop beginning at the path. Please assist us in making sure your child does not cross the bus loop in front or behind buses.
Any child who is sick at school must see the school nurse who will make the decision as to whether or not the child will be sent home. Please be sure your emergency contact list includes someone who could pick your child up at school if you are out of town or are unable to be reached.
The staff has been working diligently throughout the summer planning new initiatives, preparing for instruction, and developing new activities. One new program available to students in grades 7-10 is the Alternative Education Program. If you have a child entering one of these grades, and you are interested in the program, you may pick up an application for the program in the main office. An informational meeting will be held on Monday, August 22nd, for interested parents and students to complete necessary paperwork for student participation. If you have further questions regarding this program, please contact Tom Philbrick at ext. 101.
Thank you, and I look forward to a great new year! Please feel free to stop by my office or give me a call (ext. 104) if you have any further questions, concerns, or needs.
Sincerely,
Sherry Connally
Principal
